Implementation of the Geochron model

in: Proc. 23rd Gocad Meeting, Nancy

Abstract

In this article, we present a way to build the GeoChron model described by Mallet ([4]), based on the extraction of fibers along Iso-Paleo-Geographic lines, by following a vectorial field. The fibers bear an initial value for a 3D-parameterization in which the third component is the geological time of deposition. Faults may be integrated in the fiber field and, provided that the throw vector is known (or computed) along the faults, the fibers may be continued across them. The resulting so-called G -parameterization may then be used for various purposes, among which geostatistics independent of the type of 3D-mesh, and deformation analysis. The latter application is widely used to check the validity of the process, on known theoretical example as well as on geological examples.
