Stochastic simulations of conduits dimensions inside karstic networks

Abstract

Karstic networks have a strong influence on underground flows. To perform flow simulations in such environments, several approaches require to inform the average radius of the conduits. Statistical analyses highlighted similar distributions of the conduits average radius inside different karstic networks. The computation of 1D-curvilinear variograms also shows a close range spatial continuity inside the networks, while an even better continuity can be observed for points located inside the same conduits. This paper presents a method based on Sequential Gaussian Simulations (SGS) to stochastically simulate the average radius of karstic conduits. This approach allows to take different conditioning parameters (hard data, histogram, variogram) into account and respects the intricacy of the networks. The method is applied to the karstic network of Arrestelia (Pyr{\'e}en{\'e}es-Atlantiques, France). First, realizations are performed without considering any data. In a second time, the data points are used to test conditional simulations. We analyze and compare these results to assess the performance of the method.
