A framework for spatial and geological queries in Gocad

Abstract

It will be shown how spatial queries can be grouped in a systematical way. This is the basis for the formulation of a spatial query language for GIS queries on Gocad models. In order to explore the data of a Gocad model, these queries can optionally be combined with geological property queries. To provide a general framework for a consistent, flexible, queryable geodata management, a XML database is accessed by Gocad via network. This results in a two level 3D-GIS, leaving meta-data queries, geological and simple spatial queries to the data management system and more complicated spatial and geological queries to Gocad.
