Physical simulations on unstructured meshes with an integrative tool linking RINGMesh and CSMP ++ State of the art on numerical simulation

Abstract

Dealing with several tools and different formats is a challenge in numerical simulations. In this paper, we propose an interfacing tool allowing the direct communication between two libraries: RINGMesh and CSMP++. The first one handles 3D unstructured meshes of geomodels and the second one performs a finite volume-finite element resolution scheme to run physical simulations. We present how the description of rock heterogeneities is directly transferred from RINGMesh to CSMP++ through the mesh and properties. The methodology to set the physical process with equations and boundary conditions is described. A geomechanical simulation is run to validate the results and compare them with other tools. A flow simulation is also provided to demonstrate the wide range of applications and to open the path for further complex geothermal applications.
