Advanced geometry processing in Gocad using Graphite.

in: Proc. 30th Gocad Meeting, Nancy

Abstract

Geometry processing is a key area in geometric modeling to visualize and run simulations on complex meshes. Much of this quickly evolving field has a strong potential in geomodeling applications, for example to resample, parameterize, compress or grid geological objects. Graphite is a research platform for geometry processing and computer graphics developed by the Alice team of the INRIA at Nancy. It provides access to some of the most advanced research results in geometry processing. A new plugin, recently implemented to couple Graphite to Gocad, is presented in this paper. The developed architecture, based on the generic mechanisms of Graphite and Gocad, is light, easy to maintain and could be used to integrate another software in Gocad. In particular, all algorithms and objects existing and to exist in Graphite can now be accessed from the Gocad user interface. Two-way conversions between standard Gocad objects and their Graphite counterparts are also proposed. The plugin allows to use directly Graphite in Gocad constituting an importantperspective for research in geomodeling. The use of the plugin is illustrated by surface remeshing examples.
