Abstract

The Caeté River estuary is inserted within the Bragança coastal plain (Northeastern Brazilian Amazon). It is cut by some canals of tides, whose dynamics is mainly influenced by the semidiurnal tides and the rainfall. It is the third estuary in economic importance of resources fishing boats in the Northeastern of the state of Pará. The situation of this estuary becomes preoccupying for diverse impact factors (e.g. silting of the river by unloading of solid and industrial residues in the stream bed of river, and other waste proceeding from fishing boats). The landscape of the Caeté River is seriously affected by anthropologic disturbances, that in the near future can be highly disturbing factors of the ecological balance of the region, reflecting itself directly in the quality of life of the most of inhabitants. In fact, the silting process of the river already starts to impact directly the capacity of draining of production of some living marginal communities of the edges of the Caeté River. In this work a bathymetric study of the Caeté River was carried through according to two types of tides (flood and ebb). This bathymetry results were represented through 2-D and 3-D modeling. This river presents spatial variations throughout its path and depths. The path of river is not necessarily right away, presenting certain sinuosity. It was evidenced indications of silting in some parts of the river.
