Abstract

Fracture density is an important parameter for characterizing fractured reservoirs. Many stochastic simulation algorithms that generate fracture networks indeed rely on the determination of a fracture density to populate the reservoir zones with individual fracture surfaces. Fracture corridors are particular tectonic features that are generally difficult to characterize from subsurface data. Recent researches are devoted to methods that can exhibit fracture corridors from diffuse fractures. Viseur et al. (2014) have proposed a novel approach for estimating fracture density from scan-line or well data. This method relies on regression, hypothesis testing and clustering. In this paper, a Gocad-plugin termed as FracDens, is presented and corresponds to an integrated implementation of the method proposed by Viseur et al. (2014). First, the mathematical principles such as regression, hypothesis testing and clustering in use in this method will be explained. Then, the second part will describe the structure of the code and the main algorithms. Thanks to a test case, the functionalities will be shown as well as the provided visual and file ouputs.
