On appraising structural interpretations using surface seismic data

Abstract

Structural models built from interpretation of seismic images inherit uncertainties propagated from interpretation uncertainties. As a result, it is often possible to propose multiple structural models from a single seismic image. We propose a method to appraise different geologically valid structural models built from a single seismic image. The main idea of the proposed method is to simulate synthetic data for each structural model, and then compare the resulting synthetic data to observed data. In this paper, we focus on appraising structural models using surface seismic data.
