Abstract
Expert-based well log interpretation and correlation generally produce one geological scenario. To help uncertainty assessment, we propose to combine two correlation algorithms, called Dynamic TimeWarping (DTW) and Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), to a pre-processing signal analysis called Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT), that produces multi-scale information about logs. This combination aims at producing different, geologically coherent, low order scenarios, that are then used as constraints to infer higher order correlations. This paper exposes preliminary results using geological concepts based on sequence stratigraphy, considering a well log reflecting relative water level variations. We produce and compare correlation scenarios with different types and combinations of inputs, including raw log coefficients, CWT coefficients, and stratigraphic sequences. This method aims to better explore uncertainties, by producing several scenarios at each considered scale that are less redundant than using the n-best results from DTW on well data.
