Abstract

Fracture interpretation and characterization tools were recently developed in Chevron to perform the following tasks in GOCAD envoirnment: automatic fracture interpretation and 3D visualization for image logs (CAST, EMI, FMI, UBI, etc.), automatic fracture characterization and analysis, generation of fracture network and effective tensor permeability for reservoir simulation. Our objectives are to: • Significantly reduce cycle time for fracture interpretation, data analysis, model building, and conversion from geological model to engineering model within and outside GOCAD, • Provide better spatial display of fracture planes and fracture analysis results, and • Provide effective tools for fast data reprocessing, model building and updating, and conversion from characterization to reservoir simulation.
