Abstract

The homogenization method computes the effective medium of a complex real one, upscaling the heterogeneities far smaller than the smallest wavelength of the simulated wave field. This method has been established for 2D media in 2010 and has been extended to 3D media in 2013. The objective of this paper is to validate the method for complex geological models by implementing a gOcad plug-in which is the bridge between the geomodeling software and the stand-alone homogenization code. This plug-in is dedicated to TSolid gOcad objects (or tetrahedral meshed solid) explicitly meshed and creates the input files necessary to the homogenization code. Once created the files can be either left on the same local machine or sent on an external cluster where the computation of the effective medium is realized. The homogenization method gives as output file a Cartesian grid which corresponds to the upscaled medium.
