Abstract

GoFraK is a plug-in and workflow in Gocad for modeling the fracture density and equivalent flow properties of naturally fractured reservoirs (NFR). It involves a multiple-step approach that relies on original conceptual models and methods. This includes a multivariate and geostatistical approach to simulate fracture densities (FD), methods for calculating the equivalent (effective) permeability tensor of fracture systems, and methods for evaluating the flow response of models for confrontation against dynamic data. New developments have been carried out to bring new functionalities to GoFraK and to make it a more integrated tool. These new functionalities include exploratory and statistical analysis tools, automatic calibration (inversion) tools to assist users conditioning models to dynamic data, and calculation and use of metric grid coordinates as a valuable alternative to Gocad grid coordinates. They are presented in this paper.
