Elements of Structural Geology (1):Introduction to Deformation Analysis

in: 19th gOcad Meeting, ASGA

Abstract

The analysis of the deformations of geological surfaces and volumes throughout geologica1 time plays a central role in structural geology. In this section we present shortly, in a unified way, how to characterize these deformations from a differential geometry point of view. Applications of such a characterization will be presented in other articles within the framework of balanced restoration of horizons and layers.
