Latest Developments in Stochastic Simulation of Fluvial Environments

Abstract

During the last Gocad-Meeting, a stochastic simulation process adapted to fluvial deposits, has been presented. The proposed approach enables to directly simulate channels that are geologically sound, honor perfectly well data, and satisfy laws of deposition. Some priorities have been set to tackle a major concern of conventional object-based stochastic simulation: combining precision with efficiency. In front of the complexity of fluvial deposits, it appeared important to focus at first on simulating only channels and accounting only for well data and geological information. But, an important concern of modeling fluvial architectures is to consider facies proportion data and to model other fluvial bodies which may exist in a fluvial reservoir such as crevasse-splays. Moreover, it may be interesting to investigate how the proposed approach, focused on fluvial sediments, can be applied to model other deposition environments such as the turbidites. This report shows recent investigations concerning these new objectives.
