Abstract

Velocity model building and seismic imaging in three dimensional cornplex structures require fay tracing for better accuracy. In seismic imaging for example, orten formulas are applied, which don't consider lateral change in velocity. Classical two-point fay tracing however is difficult ta apply in comlex three-dimensional models and expensive in terms of computation time. A more efficient way is wave front fay tracing. If cornbîned with a search strategy, it can provide efficient results. This article presents an overview of the fay tracing module in GOCAD as weil as latest developments in wave front ray tracing and fay tracing in tetrahedral models.
