Abstract

The key methodology for changing the seismic response into a geologic model is inversion. Inversion of geophysical data to obtain subsurface materiaI properties is critical to increasing our understanding of geologic structures and lithology and has direct application in hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation. In this article we propose a method of inverting a seismic attribute into a set of seismie facies. This is a first phase of generaI reservoir characterisation by using stratigraphie inversion approach. The next phases are the correlation of obtain seismic facies with lithologicaI facies, observed in the wells and the interpolation inside the reservoir with taking into account aIl imposed constrains like lithological data obtained from welliogs, transition probabilities between two lithologieal facies and others. These results can be used to make simulations of probable lithological facies distribution inside the geological reservoir volume.
