Abstract

Since a couple of years, the gOcad group in Nancy has been developing a new method for building a facies model in a reservoir. This new method based on DSI interpolates membership functions corresponding to the probability of a given stratigraphic grid node to belong to a given facies, taking into account several constraints. It is possible to combine the probabilities so defined with classical stochastic simulators in order to generate equiprobable realizations of the distribution of the facies in the reservoir. However, it should be observed that such an approach has a drawback: so far, it was possible to use only one common variogram for defining the ”style” of the distribution of each of the facies. In practice, it would be more relevant to have one specific variogram per facies: this is precisely the goal of the new ”multi P-fields” method that is proposed in this work.
